SSV JUNIOR GRAND PRIX
RULES AND GUIDELINES

Step One:  Get Rated!
Step Two:  Sign Up for the SSV Grand Prix!

3 HOUR ROUND-ROBIN PLAY

After getting an SSV Rating, players with an SSV 60 or more can sign up for an SSV Round-Robin tournament at SSVTENNIS.COM. They can immediately see their name in the roster of players for the tournament they selected. When they show up at the tournament, they are placed into small Groups of 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 players, depending on their SSV Tennis Ratings and the tournament director's discretion. Ideally, players within 10 points of their SSV Ratings are matched up for best competition. Players generally play 6 game no-ad sets with a 12-point tie-breaker at 5-all. Trophies are awarded to winners of each group for each SSV tournament.

Players are expected to know the general tennis rules, have proper court etiquette and good sportsmanship. SSV does not provide umpires for matches. However, the hosting club's tournament director will be happy to resolve any issues and help with tie-breakers.

GRAND PRIX

The player's winning results are accumulated in their SSV Level of Play and can be seen in the Grand Prix Rankings. Players often will get retested during a season to get stronger competition. Although a player may have moved up to a stronger group because of a higher SSV Rating from the retest, their results will still be accumulated in the original SSV Level until the end of the season.

We recommend you get a new SSV Rating before the beginning of a new season to have the most accurate SSV level and collect Grand Prix points.

There are 4 three-month Grand Prix seasons each year
GRAND PRIX WINNERS

Grand Prix trophies are awarded at the end of the season to the player with the most sets in each SSV level of play, SSV 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140 and 150. PLAYERS MUST PARTICIPATE IN AT LEAST 5 SSV EVENTS PER SEASON TO QUALIFY FOR A GRAND PRIX TROPHY. If 2 players in the same level have the same number of accumulated sets, the number of games won will be the tie-breaker. If the number of sets won and the number of games won is the same for 2 players, each will receive a Grand Prix trophy for that SSV level.

NOTE:  Players can only win the Grand Prix trophy one time in their current SSV level. After a player wins the Grand Prix trophy, they should re-test to try to get a higher SSV level before the next season in order to accumulate Grand Prix points and win the Grand Prix trophy for their new level in that season. The Grand Prix winner is welcome to remain in the same SSV level, but they are not eligible to win that SSV level's Grand Prix Trophy again the next season.
Now, some necessary guidelines we need to impart.  These occurrences do not happen often, but if they do, SSV must maintain fairness for everyone.

If a junior must leave or stop playing (completely) in the middle of an event, they must 'default'.  They will get 0 games for the matches they did not play.  Their opponents will win the set and get the maximum games for that match depending on the size of the group.

If a junior (or parents) cannot be found/contacted within 30 minutes of needing to play their next match, they will 'default'. This will make the entire tournament longer and it is not fair to the other players, parents or hosting venue to have to wait.

In case of rain:
  • 1. If the event has not started, the event is cancelled with no fees collected and no results recorded.
  • 2. If the event has started, but no matches completed, the event is cancelled and fees returned with no results recorded.
  • 3. If some matches have been completed, those results are kept. Any remaining matches in progress, regardless of the score, or yet to be started, will be declared a tie with both players receiving the maximum games given for that group. There will be no refund of entry fees when any results are recorded.
SSV tournaments are one-day events. There are no makeup matches. The above rules are designed to not limit a player from obtaining points, when they are not responsible for not completing a match.
HAVE FUN WITH SSV!
